Our commitment is to encourage a lifestyle of praise and worship in every believer's life through music, drama, and the arts. Once this is a part of our daily lifestyle, the church can then corporately and effectively worship the Lord. We believe, as the scripture exhorts; John 4:23 "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father seeketh such to worship him."
Our vocal music ministries are composed of men and women who sing with the Voices of Praise & Worship: the church’s Praise Team, Men’s & Women’s Choir, Angelettes, and New Generation. The goal of this ministry is to share the Word of God with individuals within the church and throughout the community. Members of the ministry participate in weekly worship services, weekly biblical study ministries, ministry outreach, and special events.
Founded in 1980 by Deaconess Mary V. Piner, the church’s first choir director, the ministry was originally called the Praise and Worship Ministry. She was succeeded by Minister Darlene Shephard in 1995 who guided the ministry and oversaw the youth, young adult, and adult choirs.
As the young adults grew and came of age, so did their ministry and talent. The ministry would start the congregation in worship on Sunday mornings before the 11 a.m. service. Under Minister Shephard’s leadership, we also added the Daughters of Destiny and Spirit & Truth step teams and a drama ministry, which broadened the ways in which we could demonstrate our talents while serving God.
With this expansive growth, the praise and worship ministry continues to be strengthened with a delivery of praise songs, gospel favorites, and soul-stirring melodies that engage the demographics of the congregation in worship with energy and a joyous spirit. “Let Everything that hath Breath Praise the Lord!”
The Praise Team emerged from the combined choirs and now takes the lead on the Sunday services. Its devotional leader, lead musician and worship leader is Reverend Terri Vincent. It is composed of a multi-talented group of psalmists who have sold out for Christ.
Services and Activities
The Voices of Praise & Worship Ministry provides praise and worship for the following:
- All 11 a.m. Sunday services
- All church special services and events
- Various church ministry retreats
- Various church ministry anniversaries
They also accompany the pastor and other ministers on several outside engagements.
